Family House
Family Stone House
Visitor huts are within or adjacent to the boma (homestead), close to your host family’s hut. At night the entrances to the boma are secured by thorny cut branches to prevent wild animals from entering the village to take the cattle. Along with sleeping areas the huts also have a sitting area for day-time use. There is no electricity or running water, so hurricane or solar lamps are provided and the ladies fetch water and heat it on an open fire for bathing in the traditional African way (a flannel wash in a bathing bowl). There is a private long drop pit latrine for your use. Traditional meals are prepared by your Maasai hosts including rice, ugali (stiff maize porridge), potatoes, vegetables and meat when a cow or goat is slaughtered in the village. Bottled drinking water is available locally and smokey Maasai chai (tea) flows freely in the village.
